Borderthra

The original ‘Dark Crystal’ has, in recent years, been widely recognised as one of the top sci-fi movies we’ve been gifted with, even if it is now something of a childhood relic. ‘Age Of Resistance’ is a fully revamped, fully realised prequel that retains everything that was weirdly, wonderfully janky about the original while allowing a breadth and scope of vision that would never have been possible in 1982. We got yuck. We got sky. We got life.

The Last Blonde

This is number 1006 of 2000 printed. It limited. Alasdair McLellan (he of ‘Never Gonna Give You Up’ fame, Berlin 2002) is a fantastic portrait photographer and ‘Blondey 15-21’ follows the young, English skater over those formative years. While I don’t usually go in for what is technically fashion photography, there is a certain fragility in McLellan’s work and in that of Blondey himself. Nab one while you can.

The Griffin Cosmos

Brian made his name shooting album covers for everyone from Iggy Pop to Depeche Mode, Queen and Kate Bush to name but a few. We talked about his collection, about tour fatigue and we even discussed how his initial work necessitated Polaroid backs which ended up signed by their artistic subjects and most likely in the collection of any number of lucky assistants. The mind boggles.

Excellent Three

E3 happened last week and the dust is still settling. We saw a load of reveals, gameplay and orchestral performances which is nice and even more things got release dates, some of them with more power to levitate your eyebrows offa your facade than others. There were also appearances from certain people to cause a heart to chorus.

Tucadewookie

It must be true that there is an alternate, lesser galaxy in which there are no hairy co-pilots of the Falcon and it’s basically just kit bashing, some bullshit about midichlorians, and a whole buncha pew pews. There are other aliens in the wars concerning stars, for sure but I like that wookie and Mayhew made the role his own.

Star Brawls

I am a mathematically impossible one hundred and one percent in the room for their western-sci-fi-bounty-hunting extravaganza. John Favreau and Pedro Pascal seems like a strong blend and I’m wondering how much this Disney+ deal is going to cost me. Anything with more IG-88 please.

This Nun Of Mine

We’re this far into EA’s agreement with Disney and we have only…two distinctly average [at best] games to show for it? My only conclusion is that Disney gives no cares about the games market and is sleeping on a monster trick with a large number of zeros attached to it.

Like all great science fiction, the technology, space ships, A.I and alien lifeforms are somewhat incidental; they are a contact and mirror to hold up though which we might better view ourselves. The atmosphere may be different, the language ever-changing but some aspects of human nature remain.
